Twelve things a ready chain has done.

Phase 1

Know your chain

• List every commodity flow that falls under EUDRCoffee, cocoa, rubber, palm oil, soy, cattle and wood, including derived products like chocolate, leather or furniture.
• Confirm your role for each flowOperator or trader, SME or non-SME. Your obligations differ, and one company can hold several roles.
• Map every actor between you and the plotIncluding the suppliers behind blended or aggregated lots. If you cannot name them, that is your first gap.

Phase 2

Collect the evidence

• Geolocation for every plot of productionA polygon for plots over four hectares, at least a point below that. Coordinates of a warehouse do not count.
• Production date or range for every lotThe evidence must tie the goods to when they were produced, not just where.
• Legality evidence per origin countryLand use rights, permits and other applicable law of the country of production.
• Deforestation-free after 31 December 2020For each plot, not for the region on average. Satellite screening helps, and disputed plots need a closer look.
• Country benchmark checked for each originLow, standard or high risk changes how much diligence, and how much simplification, is allowed.

Phase 3

File and keep

• Risk assessment recorded, mitigation documentedWhere risk is not negligible, show what you did about it before placing the goods.
• Due diligence statement submitted before market placementFiled in the EU Information System, with the geolocation attached.
• DDS reference numbers passed downstreamWhoever buys from you needs your reference numbers to file their own.
• Records kept for five yearsReviewable when a competent authority asks, which can be long after the shipment moved.
