Every line answerable.
Front of pack
Sidama Single Origin
Sidama, Ethiopia · 250 g · Harvest 2025/26
Three of the four are answerable today. The fourth needs a field record nobody holds.
Your whole book
See it by line, commodity or deadline.
By line, when marketing wants to know what it can print. By commodity, because own label and branded goods are two different duties. By deadline, because artwork goes to plate months before the goods ship.
What the record is checked against
Checks you cannot run alone.
Four checks run the moment data lands. Three of them you could commission from a consultancy. The fourth only works because every plot in the chain sits in one place.
- 01None foundForest loss since 2020Compared against the 31 December 2020 cut-off, plot by plot, and rechecked every harvest.
- 02No overlapProtected and indigenous landEvery boundary checked against protected and indigenous land registers, with its source and date.
- 031 overlapNetwork-wideDuplicate and overlapping plotsAcross the whole network, not only your own suppliers, so the same hectare sold to two buyers surfaces before it reaches a pack.
- 04Over by 8%Documents and capacityDeclared volume is checked against what the land can physically produce — the sentence you never want written about you.
- Then, one requestOne campaign, not forty emailsEverything missing across every tier goes out as a single campaign, in the producer’s language, and closes itself as the answers land. Your team watches a number move rather than chasing a list.
- Then, one decisionA judgement with a name on itAccept it, merge it, or send the producer back to re-walk. Accepting anyway is allowed and has to be justified in writing. That written reason is what an auditor reads, and what protects the buyer who made the call.
Invite one tier. Reach them all.
Two of these five steps are yours. Everything between them is each tier bringing in the one below it, each on its own plan, with the Field App free for the producers at the end.
- 01YouYou invite the importers you buy fromOne invitation each. Nothing to install, and nothing for their producers to pay.
- 02ThemThey invite their exporters and millsEach tier brings in the one below it, in its own language.
- 03ThemCooperatives bring their producersThe people who grow it map their own plots, on the phone they already own.
- 04ThemEvidence is captured on the farmBoundaries walked, papers photographed, consent recorded, offline.
- 05YouIt arrives under your claimEach line traces to the plots that filled it, with nothing keyed in by your team.
If you already collected data
Years of supplier data? None of it is wasted.
Questionnaire answers, polygons your sustainability programme already collected, certificates in a shared drive — import them in bulk before you invite anyone. The readiness view then shows what is genuinely missing, so your suppliers are asked only for the gaps.

- Readiness scored — complete, partial and missing, per supplier
- Programme data kept — polygons and certificates attach where they belong
- 0 duplicates — existing records matched, not doubled

Invite, or sponsor.
The cheapest way to comply is to stop buying from smallholders. Buying only from the estates that already have the paperwork takes your origin story with it.
You have two levers instead, and you can pull both. One costs you nothing. The other is the only one that reaches the people your differentiated volume actually comes from.
- 01InviteInvite the suppliers you already buy fromInviting costs you nothing, and the Field App is free for their producers. Each organisation you invite runs on its own plan, so this reaches the tiers that can fund one.
- What it costs you€0
- What their producers pay€0
- What they payTheir own plan
- 02SponsorSponsor a cooperative, a region or your whole chainTheir coverage sits on your plan, and you get a programme console for what you fund: campaigns, screening and coverage across that network. The only lever that reaches the tiers which cannot fund a plan themselves.
- What it costs them€0
- What you getCampaigns and screening
- How far it reachesAs far as you fund
Fund it once and the chain is not only compliant, it is legible. Carbon, regenerative practice, living income and certification all need the same starting point: known farms, known boundaries, known deliveries. Each one becomes an addition rather than another survey.
Where the record comes from, and where it goes
One record, farm to shelf.
Boundaries walked on foot, papers photographed where they are with the time and place attached, consent recorded by the producer in one of fifteen languages, all offline on the phone they already own. Nothing typed by an intermediary reading a spreadsheet, and nothing bought from a database.
- A code on the pack, not a microsite to maintainIt resolves to the lot the pack came from, so the page changes when the lot does.
- The plots that filled the lot, on a mapRegion, cooperative and harvest, from boundaries the producers walked themselves.
- The same evidence your buyers auditOne record serving the shopper, a retailer’s assurance team and an authority, at different depths.
The record belongs to the producer. They grant access and can withdraw it, which is why they are willing to make it. What a shopper sees is a region, a cooperative and a harvest, never a farmer's address.

Serve every asker.
You are at the end of the chain, so the questions arrive rather than leave. Five people ask the same one at five depths, each served from the same record, cut to what they are entitled to see.
- PublicA shopper“Where is this actually from?”
- SharedYour retail customer“Show us the file before we list it.”
- FullAn auditor or certifier“Sample these lots and prove them.”
- AggregateAn investor or benchmark“What share of volume is traceable to farm?”
- CompleteA competent authority“On what basis did you place this on the market?”
Compared with what you would otherwise do.
Every one of these is a reasonable thing to buy. Each also stops somewhere, and where it stops is the part you sign for.
Close the gap before it’s asked.
A brand carries its claims in public. Your supplier can lose a contract; you lose the sentence you built the line on.
- 27 Sep 2026Generic green claims bannedFrom that date an environmental claim you cannot substantiate is an unfair commercial practice across the EU.
- DelistingBy your retail customersThey ask for the file behind a claim before they list it, and again the day somebody asks them about it.
- The storyOnce told, hard to retellAn origin claim that turns out to be unevidenced does more damage than never having made it.
Directive (EU) 2024/825 applies from 27 September 2026: generic environmental claims are prohibited unless recognised excellent environmental performance can be demonstrated, with penalties set by each member state. Where you place goods on the EU market yourself, the EUDR obligations and their sanctions apply as well.

Every organisation in the chain holds its own plan, sized to what it covers. Where a cooperative or supplier cannot fund one, you can carry them on yours.
Questions we get.
We buy through importers and traders. Can we really see past them?+
You invite the tier you contract with, and each tier invites the one below it. The producers at the end never pay, so the invitation travels further than a purchase order can push it. Where it stops you can see which supplier it stopped at and what is missing behind them, and you can sponsor the tiers that cannot fund a plan themselves.
We have no field presence. Who actually does the work at origin?+
Either the tiers you invite, or an agency you appoint. An agency holds its own plan, runs readiness and outreach for the suppliers you name, and is billed on its own coverage rather than yours. Where a government wants oversight of an origin, a country reviewer can be invited to look at screening results at no cost to anyone.
Who pays for what?+
Each organisation in the chain holds its own plan, sized by how many producers and suppliers it covers. Producers never pay: the Field App is free to download and free to keep using. Where a cooperative or supplier cannot fund a plan, you can sponsor them and their coverage sits on yours. Statements are €1 each, charged when one is submitted.
Much of our range is branded goods we buy inside the EU. Does that change what we have to do?+
It changes which duty you carry. Where you place goods on the EU market yourself, typically own label, you do the diligence and file the statement. Where you buy branded goods already inside the EU, you collect the reference for what you sell on, pass it downstream and keep it. Tracebud sorts your lines into those two halves and holds the register for the ones you only pass on.
Our claims are already certified. Why do we need this?+
Certification tells you a system was audited. A regulator or a retailer asking about a specific pack wants the plots, papers and receipts behind that lot. Tracebud holds those, and certification sits on top of the same records rather than beside them.
How current is it? A claim printed in January has to hold in December.+
Boundaries are rechecked against forest loss each harvest, and coverage is scored per line rather than per company. If a supplier drops below par mid-season, the line carrying their claim shows it before the next print run is committed.
