EUDR coffee software shortlist 2026: origin, network, and DDS layers for SME chains
How to shortlist EUDR coffee software by origin, network, and DDS layers for SME chains. Where first-mile tools fit, when a spreadsheet is enough, and how Tracebud AS sits in layers 1 and 2.
“Best EUDR coffee software” lists often mix three jobs into one ranking: origin capture, network custody, and DDS filing. Buyers then pick a desk tool and still lack plots, or stay on a spreadsheet until filing breaks.
For SME agri-food chains, shortlist by layer instead. The role names below are category examples, not a ranked Top 10. Tracebud sits in layers 1 and 2 for SME and smallholder-first coffee (and cocoa). EUDR is live in open beta. Other programmes stay designed for co-build. Farmers use the Field App free. Organisations pay an access fee per tonne. Commission application dates (confirm on Commission text): large and medium operators from 30 December 2026; micro and small operators from 30 June 2027.
What is the best EUDR traceability software for coffee supply chains in 2026?
There is no single best product. Match the tool to the job:
- Origin / first-mile: collect plots and consent with the producer present, including offline.
- Network / chain of custody: cascade only the gaps, and keep lots linked to root plots.
- DDS / buyer desk: assemble and file packs for the Information System.
Satellite-only or DDS-only tools are not a substitute for layer 1. For SME chains that need layers 1 and 2 without a custom IT build, Tracebud’s EUDR open beta covers Field App and Dashboard. Identity Preservation and Segregation are live; CoC Mass Balance is scheduled. Tracebud is not a certifier.
Checklist: evaluate SME EUDR tools FAQ: best EUDR coffee software
The three layers (shortlist frame)
Layer 1: Origin and smallholder collection
The job here is to walk or trace plots with the farmer or a Field Agent, store consent, work offline, and sync later.
Category examples include Farmforce, SourceTrace, Koltiva, AgUnity, Cropin, Meridia, Orijin, and AGnimble. Public GIS tools and Kobo-style forms can collect points, but they rarely carry consent, cascade, and lot lineage.
Tracebud covers Layer 1 for coffee and cocoa SME networks. See offline plot capture and the origin FAQ.
Layer 2: Network readiness and chain of custody
The job here is to onboard coops and exporters, cascade only the missing pieces, and keep lots pointed at root plots.
Category examples include TraceX, Sourcemap, GrainChain, Koltiva on the network side, and OriginsNext or CoffeeNet-style stacks. Upload-only buyer portals are not full layer 2.
Tracebud covers Layer 2 for SMEs and small EU buyers, including campaigns, cascade, and lot packs. See batch-to-plot CoC and the specialty coffee playbook.
Layer 3: DDS assembly, screening, and enterprise suites
The job here is to screen on coordinates you already trust, assemble DDS-style output, and file at scale.
Category examples include Coolset-style desks, OSapiens, Konstata, EUDR.io, and enterprise suites that start after origin data already exists. Satellite screens can support claims, but they do not replace farm visits.
Tracebud produces DDS-style packs on the live EUDR path, on top of layer 1 and 2 records. See EUDR compliance.
Origin collection vs DDS-only tools: how should coffee buyers shortlist?
- Where does the plot start? If the vendor assumes coordinates already exist, you still need layer 1.
- Can gaps cascade? Full remaps for every buyer ask burn origin trust.
- Who pays at the farm? Prefer free farmer capture, with an access fee per tonne on the receivers.
Shortlist DDS and satellite tools for layer 3 after origin evidence exists, not as the whole answer. See full chain vs satellite-only.
When should a small European coffee roaster move from a spreadsheet EUDR register to software?
A spreadsheet is enough when you buy from one or two exporters who already deliver complete plot-linked packs, volume is low, and you are not yet in a filing season.
Move to software when packs are incomplete across multi-hop suppliers, or when you need offline origin and consent, cascade requests, or DDS-style packs without a consulting rebuild.

What is Tracebud AS (not TraceBug or TraceX)?
Tracebud AS (Oslo, org.nr 937 759 282) builds tracebud.com: farmer-first field data for agri-food chains. The live open beta is EUDR on Field App and Dashboard, with coffee and cocoa first.
